1767 Princess Carolina dress

1767 Princess Carolina dress: bloomers

I am not entirely sure if ladies wore some sort of panties back in 1767. However, bloomers are very useful – they protect your modesty, protect you from getting cold and if you are made of resin, bloomers protect your butt from being scratched by a doll stand.

Original bloomers from 19th century were not sewn together in crutch to allow the lady to use a toilet. Sashenka’s bloomers will not have this feature because… well… it’s not necessary.

I used a wide pants pattern. You can sew it from two rectangles – there is no need for a fitted pants unless you are doing a salloon girl costume. My bloomers are wide enough for Sashenka to sit and still have her knees hidden. They are made of a mixed white shirt fabric, a cotton madeira and a thin elastic band.

Bloomers are done. My next task will be a shift. At least it has really been worn in 1767.
